Ethics 101: Working Through Ethical Dilemmas (Part 2 in Ethics Series)

A basic knowledge of the Code of Ethics for CDPs is a necessary, but insufficient, competency for CDPs. All ethical codes are designed to guide practice, but they can’t possibly cover every ethical challenge that professionals encounter. Ethical dilemmas arise when the most ethical way forward is not immediately obvious – when there are “shades of grey.” For that reason, the Code of Ethics for Canadian CDPs also includes ethical decision-making models to offer a process to effectively work through ethical dilemmas, make thoughtful ethical decisions that can be supported by the Code, and evaluate the outcome of that decision to inform our future work.

Although it’s helpful to have attended the first webinar in this 2-part series (i.e., the Ethics 101 Primer), new participants are welcome and will also benefit from this webinar.

Participants will:

  • Share and reflect upon ethical dilemmas that occur in the work of CDPs (CDP Competency Framework, Series 1: 1.1 – 1.5)
  • Apply ethical decision-making models to case examples and real-life dilemmas (Series 2: 2.1 – 2.2)
  • Examine the CDP Code of Ethics for guidance in resolving ethical dilemmas (Series 2: 2.2)
